Finally! Weaving!!!!

 February 22, 2012

I finally finished my piece that has been on the loom bars since before the car accident in November.  And I have also warped up a piece for dbl wft dbl wf (embedded double weave).

Here is the simple warp float piece from November.  I just had no inspiration at all and wanted to see if I could manage to weave with the injury to the shoulder.  However, I do love simple warp floats and the colors here just pop against one another.  I did do something new and leave the stripes inside the motif, and warp floats galore on the outside.  Just simple diamond's but good practice.  All in all I am pleased.

It will be made into an envelope bag.  Here I did a test run of the folding.

The dbl wv is in bright white and charcoal gray...so far I have only done my signature heart as I have two commissions for pine needle baskets I had to get a start on.  No pics of those in the other thread as they will be as close to the first one that the lady saw as possible.  Boring, but money is money, I am glad for the work at all.

As for this weaving, I have 19 pattern threads (after creating border's that hide the weft well) and am trying to decide on whether to do something of my own in motif or maybe some Bedouin motif's from Laverne's charts.

Yesterday I got a wonderful couple of phone calls from Georgia.  I sent my socks that were a little too big for me to my friend Dana, you remember the two tone blue and teal ones done not long ago, and I sent her fella Steve a Pine needle basket.  Both were well appreciated and I feel good to have been able to do something nice for my friend's.

All in all a good day!

Look what DANA did!

May 9, 2011  Monday

I can't wait to feel better...BUT LOOK WHAT DANA DID!  First she put the hardware on the dble wv I did for her nephew's guitar strap.

AND look what she did for her second backstrap project.  These are my scroll designs, Laverne Waddington's blog is where the 3d effect came from and she also did basic diamonds AND this is only her second backstrap piece, further she has never done warpface EVER.  WOW!  I am soooo proud of both of us.

Speaking of friends!

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

What a great weekend I had.  I am spacing out the blog postings so I can keep it interesting.

Sunday, the 27th I got a call from my friend Dana (my tapestry student).  She completed my friend KraftyMax's camera bag.  Do keep in mind that neither of us had any real idea of how to go about making a camera bag.  I live 3 hrs. from Max so all I had were measurements.  Thank goodness I didn't really trust them and my weaving skills are exact.  I actually wove the pieces quite a bit larger than they needed to be.In my head I was allowing for waste.

We did run into a few snags.  Max didn't really want a strap on the bag.  Her idea was that when the bag is closed the camera strap will act as a strap for the bag. Hmmmm....In order to accomplish this we had to make sure the bottom was rigid, so we inserted plastic canvas.  Then Dana decided that she would put ribs of the plastic in the corners...then we also found that the top collapsed and had to insert plastic there also.  Do keep in mind we were trying to create a cube.  As for me, I wanted the top to fold over onto the front side in a triangle so I can make some sort of closure.  Maybe even a tassel
that twists around a button...still thinking on that one.

So, if you recall a few weeks ago I completed her double weave camera strap with her business logo woven into it.  Now the actual cube has been made and will be delivered to me sometime this week.  Then I will develop the closure and ship it out.  I can't wait for her to see it.  This just behind the success of Gail's backstrap.

This morning I feel many things.  I feel as though I have made some very good new friends, even the ones in cyberville who's faces I have not and may never see.  I also feel as though I make a good 'team' player with some of them (That would be you Dana).  I feel as though I have been blessed with a talent that allows me to show them how I feel about them also!  (Have you seen the rug I made Ms. Carol for her kitchen, or even Dana's one skein project bag?)  I feel satisfied today, something that eludes me often in my life since I was forced to move to Georgia.  Like a contributing member of society.

Here are pictures of the bag so far.  I will later show you how it looks with the strap and a closure.  I love Max's color choices.

My friend Dana

Written February 14, 2011

As you all know my friend and tapestry workshop student, Ms. Dana, has graciously accepted my invitation to assemble the camera tote for my friend KraftyMax.

In the meanwhile she also has a very demanding job, a home to run, her own projects to do (think tapestry) and in between all of that she also rigid heddle weaves.  She actually bought my Kromski Rigid Heddle 32 in. loom.  The money from the sale got me my Gilmore Mini Wave loom.

She is also my only tapestry student and the one new friend I have made in Moultrie, GA.

She set out to assemble the tote today and decided to be patient and make sure that the design is correct...this is why I trusted the project to her, instead of even attempting it myself.

She did send me pictures of her latest Rigid Heddle dish cloths though...I am entirely envious of these cloths.  I love to use hand made items, even my own hand made washcloths.  She smoked mine...these are gorgeous!  She tells me that she is using a book by Betty Lynn Davenport called Rigid Heddle Textures.  Please don't hold me to the name of the book, I do know that I am correct about the author's name.

What do you think of them?

Oops...blogger is acting funny for the second time today with uploading pictures.  So this is the only one I have for now.  LOVE IT DANA!
