Did you know?

A "Pandula" is a flower which blooms only in one's imagination.

Moved my rv for the second time in two months :-( sooooo, not many posts to blog!

So here we go.  Since my last post I have been kind of all over the map with my art.  Everything from beadwork to drawing.

Here i just picked up an ink pen with no plan and let my mind and hand just wander.  Look what happened.

I call this  ZIA doodle "Flo". Probably because nothing about moving just flo's, it is always jagged and difficult for me.

Then I painted over my only canvas.  This is for a background to draw on.

Kind of like how I did this one with watercolor...My friend kraftymax asked me for a "bright" sugar skull.  She loved him!

Then I did this in my sketch book.

I love green and blue together.

I did this while also painting the canvas background and another background in watercolor.  In the process I accidently transferred pink paint from my hand onto the paper...thus the pink ribbon.

Then a little bookmark and I even burned the edges.  First time I ever did that.

I clearly have a thing going for this "flowy" design.

Then I tried ballpoint pen on top of the acrylic paint on canvas.  Who knew there were glitter ink pens lol?

I am not really sure how I feel about this one.  He is kind of on hold while I think of what it needs next.

Then I started a pineneedle basket with whatever supplies I could gather.  My usual supplies were not with me and it was my absolute worst basket ever...

Done with cross stitch linen and the tiniest, most brittle pine needles ever.  I didn't even put my mark on it.

But my friends daughter wanted it so I gave it to her , other wise I would have cut it up and re-used the wood center.

Now I have my basket supplies and am working on a little 5 in. Oval basket.   Ahhhh a comfort zone.  Much better.

So for now that is it.

No farmers market right now, but I do have my application in for the Jacksonville Fl Riverside Arts Market!

Wish me luck and don't forget to find me on instagram and facebook under Earth Baskets or Pandulaarts Creations!

This piece of wood was put through a planer for me, it was part of the stump that my vise for spoon carving is mounted on.  I have a whole stack of it I just kind of been looking at it waiting for her to tell me what it wanted to become when it grew up.

I love to draw even though I do not consider it my strongest art form.  I'm trying to get better at it though and I do love working with the wood. So since the wood has been killing me physically I decided to once again try to draw directly onto the wood.  Thus combining my love of both and giving me the opportunity to improve my drawing skills.

It started out looking like this…

Then this...

Hated it!!! And so then I discovered the magic of sandpaper. Sanded it clean and started over.

Then it looked like this…

And I liked it well enough. Then I started to apply Ink to it and it began to look like this…

And again I hated it. The vine part but the flowers are supposed to be hanging from was just too thick. I also discovered throughout this process that it sucks the life out of a micron pin and sharpie's.  And of course the larger sharpies bleed into the grain of the wood leaving no control whatsoever throughout the process of drawing. So once again I got out my sander.

And it looked like this…

And now I like it a lot. I learned a lot. This is done with nothing but a ball point pen. I definitely have to get better about line thickness. But I can live with that.

I'm going to put screw eyes in the top of it and maybe hang it from a beautiful black satin ribbon (maybe).  I'm also going to polyurethane it to death.  I want it nice and shiny. Not sure yet though if I'm done drawing so stay tuned and you might get even more changes!

My first sugar skull.  Mostly ballpoint pen and a little bit of color pencil just for his ...for lack of a better word - skin tone.

Step one…

Step two…

Step three...

And all done. I like it well enough.

What you think?

Red and purple

July 18, 2014

I don't usually go for such bold color combinations. Any Red Hat ladies out there anywhere…

Purple and red with a beautiful oak center.

A little bit of drawing also I've been doing some ballpoint pen practice. Here's a few shots of what I've been up to.

Ink is very hard girls and boys. I wish I had better pen / ink colors, these are little too bright for my liking, it looks cartoony.

Clearly I need more practice. Might switch back over to charcoal and pencil for a little bit, keep watching.

Scumbling, tiny circles, with blue and green ball point pen.

I love how vibrant colors are they just pop off the paper.

Best yet with ink.  I like how well the shading went with this one.  I see form as in not just a flat circle on a piece of paper it really looks like a ball to me

Color pencil..I still suck!!!  The ball is it too too bad but the table is sitting on and the shadow arc god-awful!!!

This one is done with crosshatching and it's still not what I'm aiming for.  Did this one yesterday and just could not be happy with it, that's why I decided to try stumbling this morning.

Trying to settle on a medium that I'm happy with, one that doesn't smudge as easy as graphite and charcoal.

This one sucks too!

Also here's a little shot of the basket I'm working on it's purple and red.

Okay now I'm going to get back to one or the other talk to you later.

Practicing shading - ball point pen on bristol smooth using cross hatching, hatching and cross contour hatching.

And I still need a lot of practice!!!

This one isn't soooo bad.

This one is the worst of all...

The shadows on this one just plain suck, but I did get the shading a little better.

I'm also working on another basket!  Check it out!

Waxed braided cotton thread.

Got to get back to it talk to you later.
